Please pm me if you are coming. I need to know how much food and drink is necessary, and at that time will provide location details. Cheers.

...and it's a great chance to see a 330 gallon high tech planted tank, probably the largest high tech planted tank in the city. You won't be disappointed.
:)

I was just there yesterday (picked up a nice plant - thanks Greg!)...
and yes, the 330 gallon was breathtaking. And the other tanks and overall set-up was not too shabby either!

I'll likely be at this get-together but waiting to confirm closer to the date - both my kids celebrate birthdays around that date, so trying to squeeze this in!

Cheers Plantaholics!
(and kudos to Greg for offering to host)
Happy Friday everyone!! :P

I'll be coming from Orleans if anyone in my vicinity needs a ride.

It's now less than two weeks 'till the Plantaholics get together and I would like to get an idea as to how many are coming. I need to get the ingredients for snacks, drinks and the like. So who's coming? Please pm me if there are details you wish to discuss - address, phone or email etc.

Also, are there any discussions people would like to bring up specifically. One discussion we need discuss is how we are going to host the Montreal people. We owe them a visit, and I for one am looking forward to rekindling the relationships we started/continued from our visit last year. Cheers. G

If they are interested in a tour of sorts maybe we can meet up at Le Buffet des continents or Chenoys Deli for early lunch.  Then we head over to La Niche, Critter Jungle and BA's east and then they can head back home.  Or go backwards, BA's, CJ, LaNiche and then dinner in Gatineau.

Apart from hosting  the Montreal folks , perhaps we can consider discussing the next Plantaholics.

Oops! Sorry for the mass pm, didn't notice the forum posts in time. I think trying out a new plant type would be fun, but don't know which kinds would be best suited for my setup. I'll bring paper for notes and a bag for any potential planty donations (as long as it isn't java moss. that stuff has made too many shrimp disappear...).

I've trimmed my other Bucie and so have lots - I hope. I haven't inspected it yet, but I'm sure there will be some for lots of you. Please do some research online to make sure you can grow it, and if so we'll divy it up for those who want to give it a try. It's been growing in very high light, high CO2, moderate levels of macros and temperatures of 76 to 78 degrees F. Cheers

What is a "Bucie"? Google was unable to enlighten me, so I'm assuming this is hobby slang?

Oh! Is it Bucephalandra? It looks gorgeous. If you have enough to spare, I'll put in a request as well. The Aquatic Plant Society website lists the difficulty as "easy" and the lighting requirement as "medium", so I think it should be okay with my setup. Once I get a walstad tank set up, it should do even better.

Bucephalandra is the genus name. There are apparently no species identified yet, assuming there are individual species. Here's a web site I just got a link to from PlanteTank.net. I haven't read it but it should prove as a start for anyone doing a little research.

Assuming I can make it, I too would love to try my hand at a buce plant.

I can easily bring some Rotala rotundifolia and Alternanthera reineckii 'Mini', and maybe some monte carlo... have it emersed, but it may have been overtaken by other plants... need to check.

I might not be able to get there until a little later (closer to 5:00), so if it ends early, could someone post or PM me?

Thanks

Good to see every one, old and new, and some interesting, lively and informative discussions + very good pizza's made for an awesome afternoon.

Looking forward to getting the Montreal crew up for a visit in a couple of month's ...

I just want to add that this last Plantaholics was fantastic, and all because just about everyone attended, all except the Honeymooner of course!!!! We had old faces, new faces and the regular faces. At one point I looked around and there were five serious 'Planatholic' discussions going on at the same time. Everyone seemed to get into it. Glad everyone liked the pizza. I made 12 altogether that day, and, could you believe it - the pizza plate broke as I was finishing the very last one - karma was good all day.
I'd like to thank charlie, exv152, daworldisblack, zolta, tanksalot, lucius and Vic666 for sharing your expertises. Lucius was very kind to bring plants, terrific, thanks Brian. Glad to see ajm1961 back in the fold again, and that pm is still with us as well. Gilbotron was here for the first time and is a very welcome addition to the fold. And the new people: Kalemn and Ayden.h - the second two youngest newbies I've seen in the hobby so far, your enthusiasm is contagious; Pokki who drove in from Gatineau; poisson and friend who should never blush in public when someone mentions being embarrassed about their tanks (we all are at one time or another); barefoot_golfer who lives nearby and shouldn't be a stranger in my house. And a special comment to nemo14 who has a terrific knowledge of planted tanks and came all the way from Hawksbury to attend: I'm thrilled to have another PPS devotee with which to discuss that stuff. So, thank you, everyone who came and made this Plantaholics Get Together one to remember. Cheers to all. If I've left anyone out, I apologize, the house was very full and I tried to write down all the names before people left but I fear I may have missed some. See you all next time.

Oh, I forgot one thing: The name of the Bucephalandra variety everyone got is 'Arrogant Blue'. If you got one from my other tank before the Plantaholics it's called 'Monteyana brown red silver powder'. And you must all realize that this plant is still being researched; they don't know if these are different species or just variants of the same species. So at the present time they are being called 'variants' until their lineage can be determined. Also, the most local expert with this plant, I would think, is Jason at Critter Jungle.

No problem on the plants.  Hope they are doing well for everyone.

The Arrogant Blue buce is still adapting in my 90 gallon.  It has grown one leaf so far.

I'm disappointed that I missed this one, however it was for good reason! I was away in Africa on my Honeymoon. I am very eager to take part in the next get together and would very much like to have our friends from Montreal down.

While I was away on Honeymoon Wolfiewill not only looked after my tanks, but did an overhaul on my planted 90 gallon tank. It was horribly overgrown and in desperate need of some TLC. With the wedding and a new job recently I had been neglecting it. Thanks for taking on the challenge! Next time I head out of town I will absolutely hire you to look after my tank!

Hey, most of the troubleshooting was blind luck. But wait 'till you hear the story. I thought I'd shorted out the entire neighbourhood by unplugging one thing! But I didn't. A power outage happened 1 second after I unplugged it!!! Totally random event. I lost years off my life in the panic that followed. EVERYTHING WENT QUIET......WTF.
