Have you thought about a DIY all-in-one ? Kinda like this :

But implemented on a larger scale. That way your not worrying about an expensive pump to battle headway, possible leaks, power shut-off issues, and plumbing ? You could get creative with the placement of the false area to best suit your needs.

well -- that or when you are going with a 40g or less tank right?

The smaller the tank, the better it is to have a sump.

this is sooo ture...

a big part of success in salt is watervolume (dilution of issues into bigger volumes = more chances of catching something before it goes nuclear)

Also, equipment only scales down so much in physical size, so having somewhere other than the DT to put it can become more useful the smaller the DT is.

So does anyone know roughly what it costs to get a tank drilled, overflow installed, baffles added for sump and plumbing installed?  I'll add this estimate with the approx $100 return pump and weigh out my options.
