Back in May 2016, Jody McManus gave us a presentation on Cichlids of the World.  Many of you know Jody as manager of the Big Al's east location and cichlid enthusiast.  The OVAS Executive invites you come out on February 27th to listen to Part II of his presentation, Other Cichlids of the World.  Maybe if we are good, he will talk about his Fish Room.  ;)

Jody's Bio:

I got into the hobby in about 1987, with a 29 gallon community tank.
My brother and I quickly got another, then another tank. He soon discovered girls, and that was the end of his aquarium hobby. I on the other hand, kept at it, and was keeping a bunch of different type of fish, but already my leaning was towards the cichlid family.
I was a member of the Saskatoon aquarium society for a couple of years, then moved to Ottawa, where I didn't have any tanks for about 5 years. Then one tank, led to another, then another. Again, with many different types of cichlid.
Around this time, mid 90's I joined OVAS, and soon after was in charge of the bowl show. Eventually, I would become Vice President, and then President of the club for a couple of years.
In 1999, I started working at Big Al's and except for a 4 month excursion to where I was working in Malawi, I have been there ever since.

Here are some of his past threads on cichlids.

The meeting will take place on Monday, February 27th at <a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Tom+Brown+Arena/@45.408107,-75.724983,768m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x4cce04474b273351:0x9d83f6d8bc08c723!8m2!3d45.4079329!4d-75.7230167?hl=en">Tom Brown Arena at 7:00 PM.  Tom Brown Arena has plenty of free parking and is close to the <a href="http://www.octranspo.com/">OC Tranpso transit routes.

The meeting is open to club and non-club members so all is welcome.

We will start off with regular OVAS Club business and then follow up with Jody's Other Cichlids of the World presentation.

In addition, anyone who has any aquarium related items to sell or give away are encouraged to bring them to the meeting.

Munchies and refreshments will be available as well.

Hope to see you on Monday, February 27th 2017.

Jody

Hi All,

A question for those attending this month's meeting.
If there are people interested, I have some A. nanoluteus fry that I can donate to the club, to auction off.
These are a fantastic little cichlid, pretty undemanding, beautiful and mildly aggressive.
They are also a fish on the C.A.R.E.S. list, so, to me, it is important that whoever wins these fish, is willing to take some extra care to raise them out with the goal of breeding them in the future.
If a couple people show some interest in these fish, I will bring out a small group for the club.

The female with her fry is in the attached picture.
