Hi,

I bought 2 males and 10 female Koi Swordtails and not one of the females has gotten pregnant.  I separated 1 and bought a different coloured swordtail and put them in a separate tank and she is now pregnant.  This means the males may be infertile.

Does anyone breed these swords so that I can get a fertile male?

Thanks,

KLT

I have bred guppies, mollies, platies and swords for years and I was never able to have koi sword babies
60g guppies, female bettas, bushynose plecos, cories, apistos
2 x 5.5g male bettas
10g bredding tank for bettas,
2.5g male betta
20g, divided with babies (bettas, plecos and cories)

I outcrossed and have a few young ones and lots of Oregon females now.  I am trying to keep bloodlines well marked and will line breed to try to re-introduce fertility in the males.  They won't be 100% pure but the young ones I have all look like Koi except for one so they still add that beautiful splash of colour.

One lineage my focus is on consistently getting trident tails.  I know it is a show fault, but I really like the look.
