OVAS BAP Rules and Regulations

  1. Any OVAS member in good standing is eligible to participate in the BAP program. Any member who lets lapse their membership will have all their points accumulated kept on an "inactive list", until time that their membership is reinstated.
  2. The Chairman of the BAP program will form a committee to help oversee the inspection of the applicants spawns and to authenticate all awards. The Chairman, elected by OVAS will be responsible for keeping records and reporting to the club. In addition to the committee, any one of the Executive may inspect the fish.
  3. Points are awarded only once for each species. Variants of fish in Class C and above will be permitted for same species.
  4. Hybrids of any sort will not be considered for points or certificates. Inspection of both parental fish along with fry will be required.
  5. Any questions about the program or eligibility of fish shall be directed to the BAP chair.
  6. Fry must be a result of a spawn by the breeder’s own fish, and have been in their possession for at least one month previous.
  7. An annual summary of all awards and standings will be published at year end by the committee. Certificates will be awarded at monthly meetings, and qualifying awards submitted to CAOAC in time for their annual Convention.
  8. To gain points for a successful spawn the breeder shall
    1. Notify a committee member within 10 days of the free swimming for an initial inspection.
    2. Notify a committee member 60 days after the initial inspection. At This time 10 fry must be remaining (except those species known to have low numbers of broods). The breeder must spawn and raise at least 10 healthy fry to an age of 60 days to be eligible for an OVAS Breeders award. For Beginner award the inspection may be waved at the discretion of the BAP chair.
    3. For all classes, an OVAS spawning record form must be completed before a certificate is awarded. For Class A and B the breeder can write an article for the monthly newsletter, or two or more fish from the spawn must be offered for sale at the monthly meeting auction. For all other classes, an article must be submitted or presentation given at a monthly meeting describing the breeding.
