Title: Best Goby for a Randall's Pistol Shrimp?
Post by: Severum on February 25, 2010, 04:08:29 PM
Well after having gone missing for 6 months I found my Randall's pistol shrimp this weekend while swapping my sump and ref. He managed to go down my drain, through a filter sock, into the fuge and then into the sump.

Now that he's found, twice the size I remember him to be (what was he eating down there?) and with a nice burrow in the display I'd really like to get a buddy for him. What's the best goby for a Randall's pistol shrimp. I know they are compatible with most goby's from the genera Stronogobiops or Amblyeleotris, but there are too many to choose from. Bear in mind this is a tank with a trigger, angel and a couple tangs so competition for food against fast swimmers exists.

I'd go for a Yasha Haze Goby, they look really neat and commonly pair up with Randall's pistol shrimp.

I had mine with a Banded Hi-Fin (who made the leap to freedom  :'( )  It was a nice looking fish.

Both gobies mentioned look best with this shirmp. I initially had a yasha haze that didn't make it. Being so small I thought they'd be a little too flimsy when compared to the competition for food they had in my tank. A yellow watchman or pink spot would appear to fair better.

I'll probably give a yasha haze another try.
