Title: Nano Cube rebuild with LED
Post by: acers on August 29, 2010, 06:14:15 PM
Hi All

So I'm a pretty quiet guy normally...  But i have just finished a refit of my AquaPod and I am attempting 100% LED.  I found it hard to find real life experience with this stuff...  So i took a gamble  Here are the final specs and some pics  will try to update on any new and exciting events with the tank.

Tear Down:

All new rock, substrate, water.  Live Stock housed at a friends for a few weeks.

Vinegar soak of the tank to ensure a clean start.

Build Up:

Fresh water dip of new rock to ensure limited hitchhikers etc.
1.5 week cycle time
Current water specs 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrite and 2.5 Nitrate

Gear:

Aquapod 24Gal
2x ReefBrite LED 50/50 15 inch
1X ReefBrite LED Blue 15 inch
1X Vortech MP 20
1X MJ 1200 Circulation
1X BH-1000 Octopus HOB Skimmer
1X 150W Heater
1X Reefkeeper Lite (2PC4, 1MLC)
2X RKL Blue LED Pods
1X RKL White LED Pod

Live Stock:

1 False Perc ( His mate passed away in an MJ during transition :( )
1 Black and white goby yellow head
1 Pistol Shrimp
Misc clean up crew

Coral:

5X Florida Rics ( Easy test piece for me.  expect them to do fine )
1X SPS piece ( This is a test piece donated by a friend to see how it handles the LED )

Any suggestions for corals let me know.

Has been a few weeks since Tank went online.  Here are some reference pictures of some rics and the test SPS piece for future reference.  Most have been taken in this order

1. 50/50+Blue+50/50
2. 50/50+50/50
3. Blue

Cheers

More.  And as a note the Blue only pics do not reflect the true pop of the fluorescents in the coral.  I will need to work on that without putting off the White Balance in the pics.

Where did you get the brackets for the reefbrite?

Thanks

Hi mtx

Made them myself with some metal tile edging and a few rivets.

They work ok and I like the low profile

Growth has been as expected.

Soft corals have grown well even after being split

the test SPS piece that i have has shown what i think is good growth.

Picture of SPS included.

Cheers
