Anyone got review for this brand of heater? Or any good or bad experience?

Shannon

I think I'd like a 300 aquaclear, so I can use it for a back up for other tanks if I need it.   I got a heater with the tank by trading the tank in for a different kit.

BigDaddy

An AC300 on a 10 gallon?  That's some overkill going on there...

Shannon

I know but I can use it as a back up for one of my other tanks if something was to happen to my Fluvals. So I would be prepared and not have to run out and spend more in an emergency.  The 10 gallon is just for a hospital tank in case someone is sick or like right now I have a feulleborni holding again and I'd like to separate her to see if this would help her to hold her eggs longer.

ac300 is a bit much for a 10 especially with fry but I agree its nice to have a backup
Shannon can I buy some of those fry when they are about 1/2-1" ?

Shannon

I believe Drew told me that this Feulleborni has never held long enough.  I got her holding but she only lasted a week before she spit trying to eat at the same time.  I think its going to happen again.  I saw her trying to eat the other day.  The last time she only lasted a week.  Its a week today but I don't think it will be much longer.  She just wants to eat too baddly!

I wish so badd she could hold them. I would like to have babbies.  These are the only kind of babbies I'd like to have.  I will keep you know if I get any fry Art.

separating her would be a very good idea, she would not be tempted by the food as she wouldn't have food to be tempted with..however, the only problem is would trying to catch her freak her out enough to make her spit?.. maybe not as she didn't release when I bagged her for you

This is really strange  . I have 3 females taken from different sources and all of them are holding up to 5-6 weeks in show tank. How many times did she spawn already? If it first 1-2 time(s) it can be but later... Try to isolate her, but be careful as she could possibly spit while you will try to catch her.

with regards to heaters can anyone recommend a, err,  financially conservative, submerible heater that would be ideal for a 10 gallon,  which is exposed to room temperatures between 60+/- and 80F+/- ?

artw

with regards to holding females in show tanks in my experience they will hang onto fry for a longer time than usual in a community environment possibly due to fear of fry  becoming someone's dinner.
I still like to remove females if they look too skinny.

For a 10g you'll need a 50W heater.

A look at the Big Al's website shows:

Aquarium Systems Visi-Therm 50 Watt Heater - $37.99
Ebo-Jager Heater -50 Watt - $29.99
Thermal Compact Heater Non CSA-50 Watt - $24.99
Tronic Heater 50 Watt - $29.99
Aquarium Pharmaceuticals RENA Cal Top Light 50Watt - $29.99
Via Aqua Titanium Heater 50 Watt - $32.99
Via Aqua Preset Heater 50 Watt - $20.99

I only use Ebo-Jager heaters and have never had one get stuck on or get adjusted by accident so that's the one I would recommend.

I use thermal compact in my 10 gallons..never had a problem

I like the Hagen Thermals.

Superpet has the 50W for about $27.
