my yellow labs hav been eating tropical flake but after reading some articles i was worried that the protein content might be too high so i bought cichlid floating pellets...my labs wont touch them. its like they dont notice the food is there. the male will eat it if he sees it cme down when the spray bar pushes it down but my female wont touch it at all and they jump on the flake when it goes in but only after it sinks.

they both seem really shy but when i see yellow labs at the pet store they are always right up in the glass...

so two questions really!!!

how do i make them notice the pellets or is it not worth it and why are they so shy?

for how long you have this yellow labs ?
for how long they are eating the tropical flake ?

are they well ?

so why change things ?

Unlike most MBuna, Yellow Labs are actually more omnivorous in nature, so they would normally ingest more protein than you would expect.

What brand are the floating pellets?

Fish become used to their food...it can sometimes be a challenge to introduce new types.  You can simply stop feeding the flake and continue to put the pellets in, they will adapt :)

You might want to try a Cichlid-focused flake; "tropical flakes" are usually very high protein and although your labs will probably get along just fine on them, one a little more focused towards African nutrition might be better suited long-term.

the pellets are nutrifin

i havnt had the labs that long, just a few months and they are well but im concerned about the protein content in the flakes

im going to try not giving them anything but the pellets and see what happens but i got the feeling that my female was looking a little worse for the wear.

thanks

If they are "Nutrafin Max Cichlid Spirulina Sticks" I can attest that this is a decent food they will adapt to.

Do they normally eat flakes at the surface?  Some times fish need time to adapt to floating food if they normally eat it when it comes down.
