Hi,

I have a 50 gallons tank for my tropical fish(3 angels, 2 solver dollar and 4 rainbow)...  Now I'm thinking of starting an african cichlid tank.  What would be the minimum size.  I was looking for something in the 30 gallons size.

Let me know what you think,

30 gal is fine but you will be limited to very few fish. As full grown adults averaging 4 inches in many species, you might only be having 7 fish in that tank. If all smaller them of course more but again watching all your water parameters. Certain african cichlids require certain amount of space(footprint) of tank and with cichlids then requiring lots of rocks assuming you are thinking of the mbuna(rock) cichlids.

Have fun, they are beautiful!!!

I'd switch your tanks around, 50 gal for the Africans.
