Hello,

I recently read good things about the Hydor external heater, and was wondering if any of you had had good or bad experiences with it.  It hooks up to the outlet of a canister filter, and sits outside of the tank.   My current heater is a Rena Cal Excel 300W which I find inaccurate and I often see it go on even when the water temperature is well above its set temperature.

I am not sure about the Hydor line but if you want a very accurate and  precise heater, buy a nice Ebo-Jagger.  I won't run anything but Ebo!

I like the ebo's as well.  The newest ones have an eheim lable on them.

The thermostat is not always accurate on all of them but once you adjust them to the proper temp they will  hold it there.

You can recalibrate the heater, I just never bother.

I love my Eheim's AND my Ebo's!  :D

I have the exact same problem with my Rena Cal... which I'm sending back.

The tank will be at 82 degrees, the heater at 78 and the damn thing will turn on.

Good idea... I will see if I can still return mine.
As for the Hydor, I thought it would be nice to actually remove equipment from inside the tank for a change...  :)  I'm curious to find out if it's as reliable as the Ebo.
