I went to Big als today for some baserock and I checked out the fish while I was there, and I was noticing some signs of stuff I've been told to watch out for when buying fish :cry: . Im just wondering where do you guys get your fish and invertebrates? I recently came across someone in my neighborhood that claims himself to be a seller of fish, liverock, corals etc. is that a safer way to go  :? ?

hello there.
there is nothing in this world  that will guarantee your fish,corals and invert will be healthy and free of all defects.
as you read more about marine fish you will come to see the DO'S
AND DONT'S of this hobby. is all trial and error at the beginning,.
keep in mind knowledge in this hobby means less errors and more
fish survival.
As for the LFS, yes they sell quite a variety of species and rocks.
a bit expensive I might add,but at least they have right there and then.
local hobbiest are the best way to buy species and corals.
nor only they are cheaper,but they tend to keep to the health of their species and things

If you order fish from a local hobyist, do they usually let you see the fish and then decide? or once you ask them to get some its already a done deal?
He is definatly selling stuff cheaper, I's just important to see what your buying before you buy it. :s

usually from an online store you would not get to see before you buy..  me for example, if I have someone coming to buy a few fish from me, I have to set aside a chunk of time from my free time to wait for the person to come, then tear apart a tank..and you'd already be getting these fish at more then 50% less then you would at a lfs..you can understand while through all that effort it would not be very appreciated if the person didn't end up taking the fish..this might be different with marine tho, I don't know

yA I find online is alot cheaper but i guess you never know what your getting....Does anyone know any saltwater entheusiats in Ottawa that sells good live fish, rock, corals etc?

If you sign up there talk/write to IJO/Ivan is the owner of the site if you need to buy something. I've bought alot from him and have been very happy with everything. Sometimes in the forum people offer frags for a good price. There is tons of information on that forum that is good to read.

I also have a marine tank.
it is too bad that there is not many Ovas club members that
are not into salt water........but is all good.
if you want a local marine club.. go to www.aquaria.ca.
its mainly salt systems.
