While I'm waiting for the tenants of my tank to, ahem, die, is there any harm in letting the algae grow with reckless abandon? I've got two larger tanks waiting in the wings and have been a little behind in tank scrubbing. Don't get me wrong, the fish are cared for, just not the algae growth.

I don't believe there will be any biological downside, unless it gets so thick it starts to die, then it's like any other decaying material.

I find if I leave Algae too long, it starts to harden and become harder to remove; that's the only real downside I see.

Concur.  Especially brush algae... you wanna nip that stuff in the bud before it really takes permanent hold on your equipment/decorations
