Hello Everyone;

I have a few cultures of white worms going and I've been throwing out the soil every 2 months into the compost bin;  is it safe to use this soil even though it has the worms in them for house plants the same I would use the soil from red worm compost ? There are still hundreds of worms in the soil when i throw it out and they are all still alive.

Having said that come summer time should I be throwing this in my garden aswell ?

Anyone know the scientific name for the white worm / walter worms; so i can do some additional research on them ?

thank you all;

Enchytraeus albidus is the scientific name. When I switch out the soil I soak and cover the entire soil with about 1/4" of water. Within an hour all the worms are on top and so thick I can scoop them out with a fork, that way I minimize the losses.
They don't carry and zoonoses or pathogens so there should be no problem with composting it.

Well they are not walter worms (micro-microworms)

I don't see any problem with the worms in your flower pot. I would still feed them a bit while they were there. Beware... if the culture get to be too big they will try to escape, usualy in a massive lump.... bad tactic... fish food served on the floor (easy picking) :D
