Im stuck in between African and SA cichlids..


im thinking of getting a few SA for my 65gal.. 48X18X20

how many can i get and whats a proper ph for them..

im seeing the difference in work required in keeping SA and africans.. Thanks!!

Actually Marx, the cichlids in your list (on another thread) are central american, not south american...

These guys can usually handle water that is moderately higher than 7, but frankly, with the water here in Ottawa, getting it slightly acidic with driftwood or peat is pretty easy.

You really have to decide which ones you want to keep, as they have varying needs and have varying aggression levels.  Most of these guys get to 6 inches plus... so don't expect to be putting too many of them in a 65 gallon.

well what kind of fish are ya looking for in paticular large SA like oscars an Red devils (which also have alot of charecter to them or smaller SA like jack dempseys firemouths severums etc ???

if ya go with oscars ya will only get away with 1 in that tank im not sure about the red devils ive never owned one but ive heard they can be really nasty
