How often will kribs spawn?

We now have 10-12 2 week old krib babies, and I was wondering when she'll spawn again.

Should I take the babies out of the tank soon?

I imagine the first question would have to be, just how many kribensis do you really want? If you keep removing the family, they will continue to breed every two to three weeks, if you leave them alone, should they decide to breed again, at least there will be older siblings around to eat the new babies.

Wow do you play a little Barry White for them and add a little Viagra to the water?  ;)

Ok, so, if I noticed the male doing this funky dancy thingy for his girl...should I expect more eggs?

I noticed her belly is bright redish again, and it's been pale since she spawned this first batch.

Is this an indication of an upcoming spawn?

babblefish1960

That is it, for sure, there is not much else other than the spawning actually happening. So what are you saving all those kribs for, it does take an awful lot of them to make a sandwich.

gonna_b_no_1

Well, I wanted the BAP points for them, but I don't really want to be breeding kribs constantly.

It's a 33g tank with Mom, Dad, the doz baby kribs and a pair of lamp eye tetras.

And to think I didn't want to get convicts cuz they're like rabbits, and i got kribs instead  :D

babblefish1960

I have to disagree of course, they are no where as cuddly as rabbits by any stretch of the imagination, but I do see the BAP thing, good luck with that.

Isn't it true that the parents will try to kill of their own matture young, as they get ready to bread again? I admit I've always separated my krib babies befor this point, but That's what I've been told. Anoter thing.... I heard that the sex of the babies depends of the ph. (high equals all males, low all females...something like that) Hey if nothing else you could test this theory.

From Babbles presentation at the last meeting, was it not also temp of the water that had to do with it also?

gonna_b_no_1

So if my ph is 7.4, and my temp sits at 74.....????

Given the proclivity of the dwarf species to follow a certain path set down genetically, their hermaphroditic state can be influenced for some time following their birth by both temperature and pH, and I would say that were this to follow suit with the kribensis you currently have spawning, you would possibly be looking at a lion's share of females from these broods in these conditions.

That is quite correct Cuckoojay, additionally, the juveniles see the fry as competition and get their quick growth from eating the latest siblings.

And you are correct also Mr. Fancypants, temperature also has an effect.
