You salt people are so funny, it is almost as bad as the military in here, I remember a sergeant once, talking to me for a few minutes about some operations and after he was done, it occurred to me that he hadn't used a single solitary complete word.

Well, seeing the titles and listening to the salt speak, I couldn't help but notice that tars, gobs, salts, reefers(that use to be a trailer for food, and then a joint) or whatever you call yourselves, sound very much like the good old army neveractuallyspeak.

I was wondering, for the benefit of the noobies and those of us who haven't quite figured it all out yet, if the lot of you would be willing to impart the meanings of the technical jargon you bandy about willy nilly, and make it not so daunting to read by making it more accessible to the rest of us.

If you do a good job, perhaps it could be turned into a sticky for reference forever.

By the way, fragging was once what angry soldiers did to their own officers when they disagreed with them in combat, and xenia is close to xena, and she is too cool to actually be fragged, just an example that amused me.

I agree! I'm starting to get an itch to get into saltwater, but there are way too many acronyms...SPS...LPS...SOS...LOL! :P ;D

babblefish1960

Wow, that was such a quick and accurate description of just what was needed, that, whammo, there you go, it's a sticky.

I can't imagine that anything was missed, but if there is something missing, please add what ever escaped powderbluetang's exhaustive list.

gvv

You should collect all these acronyms for some time :D

Sadly, for whatever reason, the huge list that was prepared by powderbluetang in December has disappeared, and it is beyond my scope to remember all that was on the list.

I would encourage anyone else who has some inkling about what all those things meant, to post them here to provide something useful for which everyone could refer.

Thanks Babble :-* now I don't feel like I'm losing it :D........But maybe it's a good thing that I don't understand the shortforms keeps me from spending any more $. The better half would be pleased  :)

If anyone would be kind enough to reconstruct this list as much as they possibly could, that would be most appreciated by all of us. I am certain that someone could build quite a bit of what was here already.

I'd like to help but am so short on time right now. Perhaps a few of us could each take a section of the alphabet like;

A-E
F-J
K-P
Q-T
U-Z

That would spread it around, give more people a chance to help and it could be submitted to someone for final checking and editing so it was all the same format It could be a full lexicon of the SW hobby. Just an idea??

I wonder if we could get permission to reprint the list on Reefmonkey to this forum?  I guess permission would be needed to copy it.
