Yesterday i cleaned up my tank and a few hours later everything died exept my clam and a starfish and a few hermit :'(. What went wrong? in my skimmer cup there is that orange pink liquid instead of that mud? and my fishs and sea cucumber looks puffed.

And what to do next?am i taking all the water out cleaning my rocks and sand  so i can start all over ?

i really don't know what to do :-X

help would be very appreciated

Thank you

kennyman

how exactly did you clean your tank?

Once you figure out what you did it will be easier to know how to undo it.

armt

The usual powerheads, windows, moved a few rocks

my tank as been running up to 3 years now never a had a single problem accept this one

Alchemist

what type of sea cucumber was it?

mseguin

I would suspect the cucmber as well.

It sounds like the water may have got contaminated with something. What did you clean with? Have any chemical cleaners been near your aquarium tools? The dead, or dying livestock will cause a nasty chain reaction. Do an immediate water change, and make sure anything dead or dying is removed. And if you can, quarantine what you think will still live. Do a series of tests to show what your chemistry is at. and definately check for ammonia.

after looking all day finally found the problem i think my water temp was at 85 >:(

my heather is broke

PaleoFishGirl

Wow.  Never even thought to look there.
So sorry to hear about your losses.

speckledmind

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Did you unplug your heater while the water level was low ?

A note to all those who may forget.
Always, Always unplug your heater during a water changes and cleaning, or it will over heat and go Bonkers on you, some times even break.

armt

Yes speckledmind thats exactly what happened in 3 years in SW never thought a thing like this would happen to me

Ha well i guess we learn from our mistakes!!!

Achilles

Just wanted to note that a temp of 85 will not kill everything, it will accually have very little affect. Now if you let the heater run out of water thats a different story, but if you where cleaning the tank did you get a shock ? Do you see a crack in the heater.

veron

when you say ''I moved some rock'' do you mean some rock that was sitting on the sandbed? cleaning the glass and powerheads will not do anything to your tank but moving rock sitting on the sand bed can/will release some nasty stuff.

armt

Achilles:Yes i spoke to one of my friend and indeed 85 won't affect anything so it was something else.i did not get a shock heater was under water all time no cracks

veron:No i moved only the rocks that were sitting on other rocks

The tragedy happened in no more than half hour all my mushrooms melted , fish died, aquarium became milky coloured even my aiptaisa that was left !!!

now this morning when i woke up water was back to normal clear

i have no answer for that

sas

I don't have salt but I know with my FW tanks I have become very careful of making sure my hands are totally rinsed before I go diving into the tanks? I wonder if you may have inadvertently introduced a chemical from your hands? Just a thought???
