? about canister filter media

just wondering but the filter came with pre filter blocks and i was wondering if it is recommended to replace it with biomedia or do they serve the same perpose?

You should have both, I do in my canister filters

It depends on what your keeping though too probably. I have no need for enhanced media since my stocking levels don't create enough ammonia to surpass the abilities of a simple block of foam. But If I had a pair of Oscars, or discus; Or if I went back to African cichlids(shudder), I would go back to using the ceramics.
