best way to cut acrylic?

Methylene chloride will "melt" many plastics and if you get it onto the viewing portion of the acrylic it will "haze" it.  It works well though....like the plastic aircraft kits and glue.  Don't get methylene chloride on your skin or under something like a watch band or ring as it will sting like crazy.  It evaporates very quickly if warmed above room temperature so keep it cool and it's best kept in a dark coloured bottle.

Sounds like it is hard to use? Maybe best left for experts?

No it's not hard to use but it is a very mobile liquid...not a gel or anything so unless you are careful you could spill it on a surface that you want to keep clean.

There's probably a gel formula of methylene chloride that might be easier to use.

Oh...you should use it in a very well ventilated place, methylene chloride is also the stuff they use for stripping paint in "dip and strip" joints.
