How long can fish be kept in a fish bag before they die?
I'm referring to plecos.
Like PFG says "I miss this place and all the people associated with it."

BigDaddy

depends on the fish and the size of the bag... also ambient temperatures come into play

fischkopp

yeah, thats hard to say, but a couple of hours should be ok, if:

  • - if you dont add too many fish into one bag, depending on their size
  • - only use as much water as needed to let the fish swim comfortably
  • - an most important add as much air as possible before closing the bag
  • - keep ambient temperature, i.e. 20 - 25 deg C
be aware of the green side

A pleco could potentially live in a bag, if you opened it up and changed the water once in a while :P
I agree with fischkopp, though, make sure there's mostly air in the bag and very little water.  When they are shipped, they can be in bags for 36+ hours and still survive...

BigDaddy

These are juvies though... not full sized adults... not sure how much more sensitive they will be.

Let's get the whole story here, then! How long are they going to be in the bag, Terry?
