I have a 75g setup.  right now it is on a cabinet stand.  I need to move from room which is carpeted as I am getting new hardwood flooring.  any tips on moving out of way? to prevent tank breaking.  should i take all my substrate out?  Also when putting back on hardwood floor... should i cover floor with something?
thanks.

I have my 75gal on hardwood. If you are thinking somekind of floor covering that can hold 75gal of water, you will not find one. I have mine on a wood stand. I level the stand and that's it, no floor cover. I have a few towels handy so if I spill some water, I can dry the floor right away. I informed my wife what to do if the tank leak or burst and I am not home ... get a good divorce lawyer :D ;D

I wouldn't worry too much about taking out the substrate unless you find it too heavy with it left in. As for floor covering..... I am not too sure about that one. Perhaps you could lay down one of those plastic carpets but then it may screw up the levelling.

If you leave the substrate in you have to keep the tank level while moving it. No going up or down stairs and no lifting one side higher than the other. If you do that the substrate may shift and all of a sudden one end is MUCH heavier than it was. If you are just moving it out of the room into the hall or something like that while the floor is being done you will probably be ok but you still have to make sure not to lift one end much higher than the other. When I move established tanks, which I do far too often, I usually take the opportunity to redo them. Change up the substrate or just add some new and change the planting or rock formations, etc.
That is most of the fun for me. Setting up the tank/biotope. So if it was me I would clear out as much as I could and start planning the rebuild after it is back where it is supposed to be.
Good luck with the move!

Leaving the substrate in will certainly make it much heavier, and as Brine suggested, prone to  sudden weight shifts.  If you're just going to the next room,  get some strong, sober friends who understand the challenge of moving a heavy, slippery glass box while walking backward to help.  :)

Don't put anything on your floor to protect it.  If you put something under the tank, and you spill water, then the water can potentially get under that, you won't be able to get at it to mop it up and you will cause damage to the floor.  Just do as Toss suggested and keep some designated fish towels nearby to sop up the inevitable occasional splashing. Do it quickly and no one will be the wiser, just don't use the good towels.  ;)

Keep all the substare, decoration, & filter media under water... in buckets, etc. this is your bio-filter... if these dry out then you will be recycling your tank... if you can but a air stone in with the filter media... and have fun... :)
