I have some white coud mountain minnow females that look like they are ready to breed. How can I make them breed? I have some cherry shrimp. Will they eat them when the fry are givin birth?

Quatro

White clouds are egg layers so I figure the shrimp will eat the eggs before they hatch.  As for breeding they spawn at lower temperatures.  I had mine spawn in a goldfish bowl with no heater or filter.  Put them in a seperate tank with  a sponge filter if you have any.  They need a spawning medium.  Java moss works best but a spawning mop is good too.  If you or your dad will be at the meeting tonight I'll bring you a few mops for free.

It does the ol' fish heart good to see young hobbyists.  I'm impressed with your interest in breeding fish at such a young age.   :)

Whiteclouds are an excellent fish to start with.  They breed easily and pretty much constantly.  The fry can be a bit tricky since they're so small, but they seem to scavenge enough.  Maybe one of the club members could share a microworm culture?

There is a good introduction to breeding Whiteclouds here.  Good luck!

Thanks Melody :). I really love my minnows and I don't want hard to take care and not hard to breed fish so I know that WCMM would be perfect fish for my age and I know I'll do well and thanks for the luck. And great website Thanks!
