Can someone tell me what's the best way to protect a [normal aquarium] heater from getting smashed by my turtles? I head of using PVC piping and drilling holes, but i couldn't find a suitable size of tubing when i was at home depot (not familiar with their plumbing aisle) and I don't know if i have the proper equipment to drill holes in it anyway.

I believe that my two heaters are 1" in width and 3/4" in width. I think i can fit the 3/4" one in one of those undergravel plastic attachments, but i'm not sure if it's thick enough to prevent a hard hit from cracking the heater.

I've also checked petsmart and i can't find the heater guards i thought i once saw in stores (I think it was in a Super Pet though)

Anyone have experience with this? any advice would be great. I'ts starting to get really cold!

thanks!!

There are heater protectors, I bought two at super pet, I might be able to help you out, I do not need the ones I bought anymore because I heat my shark tank externally.
