...how is the temperment of your fish?

I've heard of some really docile ones. But mine is definitely living up to his name! He's kicking around an oscar literally TWICE his size. Which means some tank re-arranging... But still impressive.

Anyone else have experience/stories?

Also... Anyone have a female? Or know where I can get one? Only place I've seen that stocks them in town (Pet Smart) always has only males in.

These are beautiful fish as adult, I have kept many of them over the years, have bred them many times, they are moderate aggressive, definitely more aggressive than Oscars. They are cruisers, like to be in the open water, seldom they hide (only when they are sick), but they bark more than bite by cichlid's standard, they tend to use display to scare opponent, if opponent stands it and fight back, most of times GT will be toasted, so better keep them with more mild mannered cichlids.

For some reasons, I could never keep one pass 6", they all grew quickly to 6", then slowly died of some kind of bloat, I have heard the same story from some others but could never figure out why, they were at the bottom of the pecking order in my tanks, maybe stress was the reason. Have seen a stunning breeding pair in a LFS, male must be 12", female was about 10".

I agree that they're gorgeous fish which is why I ended up with one. I had never really considered one and then poof... It ended up in my tank! Haha.

My guy seems to be more bite than bark. He really doesn't like other cichlid tank mates. The only think that has stood up against him was a male con I had when the green terror was a LOT smaller. The male con nearly tore him in half actually... But now that the green terror has established himself as the tank's resident cruiser (what you said is true) he's definitely got some punch to him. He doesn't bother with the silver dollars or giant danio that are in the tank with him. But any other cichlids? He goes right for them... I realize now it's a home field advantage scenario where it's HIS tank and the other fish are being introduced. But for a 3" fish I'm surprised. Soon he'll have his own tank so then he should be happier. (Own as in no other cichlids - but he'll likely stay with something.)

My guy is pretty docile and doesn't get very aggresive...only fights with the pleco because he invades his space.

I have had him for over two years now and he has grown very large, he is roughly 13" but I think he has reached his max.

I have one JD in there with him, and he was actually protecting it when I had another pair in the tank before I bought a new one for them.

Best fish I have ever kept. He comes up to the top when I feed him, and takes his food from my hand :)
