So Many Choices??

I've been looking around, online and in stores, and there are so many different brands of filters, heaters, protein skimmers, air pumps etc.. How do I know which is the right or 'best' one? I know they come in different sizes depending on the tank size and stuff but how do I compare brands? I don't have a tank yet, so I'm not exactly sure what size it will be.. but I plan on using live rock in combination with an external power filter and protein skimmer and probably two smaller heaters because I've read in so many places how this can help prevent a lot of problems.. I also don't really know much about air pumps so if anyone could help me with kinds, brands, etc. of all of these things it would be greatly appreciated 

Also, it's going to be a saltwater tank, it's probably important that I mention that.
