Hi there  :)

I am putting together some return line plumbing tonight and was wondering about what size holes to drill. I am trying to make a spraybar for my return out of 1" pvc. The spraybar is 29" long including elbow and there will be around 1000 gph flowing into it after factoring in headloss.

Any tips on where to start with respect to drill size and spacing? And how big should I make the siphon-break holes?

1/4" it is then  ::)

I used about 3/16" holes every about every 3/4" in the spray bar for my 195 (about 24" long) and wish I would have used slightly smaller. Use my mistake to your advanatage and start small and see how you like it. You can always make the holes larger, but not smaller.  I have a mag 12 on that tank for water return.

You can see in the 180 http://ovas.ca/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=2213 I used holes farther appart and smaller holes.

Pm me to remind me and I'll measure the holes on both setups and post back here.

I finished up that part of my project Bruce. I used a 1/4" bit And spaced them around 3"-4" It seems pretty good so far but I wont know for sure until I have the tank running with livestock for a while. The lower bar will be concealed by the aquascape but the upper one will still be visable. But they will cover over with Coraline and blend into the back wall after a few months, I hope  :P

Only one bar runs at a time as they are running through a scwd. There is around 1000 gph coming out of the 10 holes and it seems to roll the whole tank over without too much laminar flow.
