I think I am almost over my imbalance which caused all the algae.

Now the plants need a trim and a bit of a reorg possibly.

I have moved around some of the plants, tall in the back now etc.

A lot of the plants have roots growing off their stems and down from everywhere on the plant.  I assume this is normal, not really ugly but causing big bunching of plants.  In a month these plants have gone crazy.

How much can you trim them before hurting them?  If you just trim the tops will that cause them to bush out?  Can you trim just the roots on the stems I was talking about without hurting the plants?

Some plants such as Ludwigia Repens and Hygro will grow roots up the stem if not getting enough nutirents at the roots (from what I understand)
Trimming the roots of the stem won't hurt the plants
