Pygmy Vallisneria

Is there such a plant as pygmy val.? I have a type of val (or sag.) that multiplies quickly but never gets over 3" - 4". I've been looking on-line but the decision seems split - pygmy val. or just a type of dwarf sag.

It could be just straight val. I had it happen that it would grow to 4ft on one side of the tank. On the other side, however, it stayed quite small, lower than 1/2ft. I could never trace down exactly why. The light condition may have not been that great, but it wasn't much different. I think it had to do with high density, maybe shading by other plants.
