Hey ive been reading around about plumming a reef tank for a sump and i need a few things clarified please.

What type of piping is best? Ive read that PVC can leach toxins, but everyone seems to use it... Does the same go for spa flex ect?...

Do i really need a check valve if i have anti siphon holes? Or is a check valve used for maintanance purposes?

Can i use ball valves for flow adjustments or should i get gate valves?

Thanks for helping!

ABS is repoted/rumored to leach PVC is the gold standard... combined with SPAFLEX for the win.. SPAFLEX is thicker walled, and absorbs more sound.. and can be shaped to minimize hard-spots (90deg turns) that cause noise via turbulance...

Do not attach using the hoze clamps things.. glue it and use true-unions, or ball valves

Checkvalves will fail... do not use them at all.. period... use ball-valve on the return line to control flow... limit what goes up, and you limit what goes down...
