I got my PFS from a store on Robertson Rd (across from Loblaws) in Bells Corners, don't remember the name. It has a shark on its logo.
Anyways, it cost me $9 for a 50lbs bag and it is white with black spots, looks great. The name on the bag is Nepheline Syenite, which I suppose it is the scientific name of the rock it is made from.

Okay ... so where to find the cheapest silica sand in Ottawa ?

Ormarr

I have purchased my Pool Filter Sand from Mermaid Pools on Ogilvie (East end), they had the beige colored kind.  I recently purchased the (dark) granite colored kind from Club Piscine on West Hunt Club (near Merivale).  Both came in 50lbs bags and each cost $9.03 after taxes.  Probably the cheapest substrate you can get.  My Africans love the stuff.

Thumpya

I just bought the TAN color silica from Mermaid (the only color they sell) it's $8.99 tax inc. per 50lb bag.
