Hey all, I'm new to the site and newly addicted (make that very addicted) to cichlids in general.  I'm in the process of getting a couple of bigger tanks in order to allow some fish to "grow out" of the 20gal tank that I erroneously started with.

Basically, I've done everything backwards from stocking to setup and I want to do the new tank(s) up right (i.e. take them to the max).

What I want to know is if any of the local retailers stock/have access to some of the nicer backgrounds, like pangea or back to nature?  I'm kind of restricted to downtown as I'm a hard-core non-driver and my vehicular access is limited at best.

If, however, I can get my hands on some sweet backgrounds I would totally make a weekend trip out towards the 'burbs.

Thanks.

Not sure if they stock it but try Pet Circus on Bank St.

By cichlids are you refering to mbuna type? If its rock dwelling fish your into there are some neet sites that discuss making textured backgrounds from styrofoam to compliment all the rock piled up in your tank.

thanks for the tips - as it happens, pet circus is right around the corner from work, so I end up stopping by at least a couple of times per week...

Also, I've been considering going the DIY route, but I'm really scared of essentially ruining a new tank - that's why I was thinking a professionally made background might be good.
