Just wondering if any of you have one, and how much it costs to set up, and what it costs for maintaining.?
Also, how many fish can i put in this size tank?

I am very interested in this thread.

I was just in Kanata today at Big als and was inquireing about the 12 gallon nano cubes.....

I dont have anything to add to this except that I am interested in details aswell.

It is advised against starting a small salt tank. When conditions change for the worse, it happens really fast in a small tank and due to expense it can be costly when fish/corals die.

In my opinion the 'it must be big if it is salt water' opinion is a thing of the past. As long as one is careful and maintains a good tank, then it's very possible.

Hello danny.
What you want to start is a NANO setup.
as a matter of fact a small set up such as a 10g tank is doable.
people always say that a small set up is harder to maintain.
its true but not impossible.
a small list of items you will need (estimate)
about 12 lbs of live rock. (3 rocks)
fitted light hood. 1 screew 50/50 light bulb (30watts)
external power filter.( no need for skimmer in this setting)
small power head  (201) for water circulation.
50 watts heater/thermometer.
coral sand (5 to 10 lbs)
fish options max 3 fish.
1 or 2 clowns  (?)
 1 royal gramma
1 dotty back
1 wrasee.
1 cherub angelfish. (this is just an option of fish you can buy
for your tank.
invertabrate options.
1 cleaner shrimp
1 banded coral shrimp
2 pepper mint shrimp
1 bristle star
1 hermit crab
1 to 3 fether dusters(optional)
3 to 5 shell snails.
this tank will be stable if
don't add additional fish
do not over feed.
and do not add anemones or hard to maintain corals.
this is just my two cents danny.!!!!!
good luck and have petience. 8)  8)

I strongly agree with Dark 50 Gallon min to start a salt tank
80 corner diamond
110 short
40 cube

I am slowly increasing the salinity in my planted 10g to about 1.010 or 50% saltwater. I figured I'd learn a few things by doing a brackishwater tank before I try all out saltwater.

Couple of things missing from yellowtang's list is a refractometer to measure salt content, a bag of salt and a saltwater test kit.

yellowtang

Yes you're right.....but I assumed these items were already standard........but yes you need all those....
one more thing...if danny decides to go ahead with saltwater set up.
a  DYI will cost him somewhere around $500.
