So here goes!

Ive got a couple of coral life fixtures that come with 10,000k light and a true actinic bulb! I don't have a SW aquarium I've got a 90 gallon discus tank with 2 coral life fixtures each with 2 6700k bulbs which gives me 4 t5 67000k bulbs. My question is this why are my coral life actinic bulbs more purple then blue? when i go to big als or aqua valley all there SW tanks have have bluer lighting then purple yet they are using actinic bulbs!!!

The reason why im asking is because i would like to get a HO actinic  blue bulb on my 90 gallon on a timer so that at night a get the blue glow on my tank!!

Thanks

There are often two so called "actinic" spectrum wavelengths, 420nm, and 460nm. The 460 is really blue, 420 more of a purple, or "true actinic". You want a blue t5. You want an ATI blue plus, Giesemann actinic plus, or the like. Not sure what coralife would call their bulbs if that's what you have available. Look for a peak in the 460 range as opposed to only in the very low 400's. Hope this helps.
