Piping for tunnels

I would like to make some tunnels and was wondering if anyone has used the grey
piping that is used to protect electrical wires. The maker is Carlon.
Is this product safe for aquarium use?
I know I could use the black PVC piping but had this grey stuff
left over from some electrical work.

Electrical conduit is also made from PVC, so it should be fine. Like anything, just rinse it well before adding it.

Ok Severum, so you had water running through this stuff not actually sitting in the tank?

sas, I would not worry too much about it. If you have water both inside and outside the pipe, it is even less likely to burst into flames

But seriously, The gray SCH40 electrical conduit is about 1/2 the price of the white SCH40 product for both lengths of pipes and fittings. There is less selection of fittings for the conduit, specifically no 'T's or hose fittings, but you can mix construction with the wider selection of white plumbing fittings. They are compatible in size and glue requirements.

Several generations of aquariests have discovered this difference in price and chosen the cheapest for whatever project. If it were not aquarium safe, I am sure we would have heard about it.
