I'm currious too! I'd never own a stingray unless I was well prepared with lots of $$$'s haha I hear they have quite the diet and can run you a pretty penny. tankmates are a touchy thing as well since you have to match carefully.

I do know that a lot of people keep their heaters wrapped because the stingrays suffer from heater burns easily. and also you need to keep a close eye on the ammonia as it only takes a spike to kill them!

jasper - have you decided what types of stingrays you would like to keep as it is a big difference in care? Potamotrygon Motoro are supposed to be good for beginners. good luck with your decision and make sure you do your homework before attempting to care for an exotic pet.

if you're looking for stigrays.......Big als has one SW.......Innes.
Super Pet On kanata has also some .FW.
I  notice the one in Super Pet is quite neat......their  tank is a wide tank with some plants and fine white sand bottom.
has some small fish tetras and some guramies.
the set up in Big als is just the bare tank.but the stingray
being salt water has more lively colors than the fresh water
plus for some apparent reason, the salt water one is much much cheaper.
you might want to check them both.
LOL.

Sting-Ray

I recently bought a ray (Freshwater - was sold as a motoro, is more of a Hystrix ray) at SuperPet in Barrhaven.

Must important thing with rays is good quality water - no nitrates or nitrites.

Heater guard is a really good idea - rays take a long time to heel if it ever got burnt.

Mine loves earth worms (Canadian Tire - $2.75) - you need to cut up the worms so they can eat them.  I also give him cocktail shrimp, it is very cheap to feed them.  Can usually get a bag for $6-8 - untreated and no shells at Loblaws or Loeb.

Here are some links regarding rays ...

Tank mates I have right now are 2 id sharks (8") and a fire eel.  Looking at getting some discuss, rainbows or possibly kribensis to add to the tank.

I too am very fascinated by keeping stingrays.  Maybe we should bring this to the attention to the executive committee, most notably, the program director and try and get a presentation about keeping them for next ovas calender year.

BA Innes should be receiving 3 freshwater rays next week.
