ro vs ro/di

I'm about to purchase a ro/di unit but can't help feel a bit frugal.  Anyone have good results with just a ro unit in Ottawa?

I'm sure more experienced members can confirm that when you try to buy cheap you get cheap results and end paying way more to get what you need

I would go with the ro/di it is not much extra to the price (usually about $40) I also find that I get a TDS of around 1ppm out of my RO and after the DI stage I always get a TDS of 0ppm.

The City of Ottawa uses chloramines.  If you just use an RO unit with 2 carbon stages, the product water will contain high levels of ammonia - not good!.  The DI stage, however, will remove all of the ammonia.  If you use a single carbon stage unit, chances are that it won't break down all of the chloramine, which will, in turn, significantly reduce the lifespan of the RO membrane. 

The best choice if you are on city water is to use a 5-stage RO/DI unit.
