Green star polyps out of control!

Ok, so my green polyps are getting all over my tank... Well, not all over, but they're visibly eyeing some spots where my sps are growing... And they're not easy to remove from the rock. Before this grows out of proportion, is there a way to limit its growth, like by applying something to the surrounding rock, or should I break the rock where it's growing and throw it away?
Cheers!

Letting it get onto your rocks is, as you have learned, the mistake.  I have loads of GSP in my tank, but it's all on the back and side glass.  Every so often I remove and discard a couple sheets of it so it doesn't get too far out of hand.

If you're able to break away the piece of rock, then do that and be done with it.

But take a small piece - doesn't need to be very big at all - and krazy-glue it to your back glass somewhere.  It's pretty cool as it grows and spreads out...like wall-to-wall carpet.  ;D

Vincenzo.

I hate gsp personally. once it spread, g'luck. Snap the rock for sure.

Severum

Break the rock off where its growing and sell it as a frag, although most people already have GSP or like Vince don't want to go near it.

i usually keep my gsp on a rock on the sand bed so it doesn't spread.

Aine

Oh shoot... I'm in need of much LR snapping, it seems!
I might get rid of the main rock where it is, and just keep a small piece surrounded in sand...

Thanks for the advice!

if you can't peel it off or break it off, you might be able to burn it off with some kalk

I couldn't... tried that... and vinegar... and hacking it with razorblades and burning it with other corals... i hate that crap... I can see how on glass it would be manageable.  I ended up taking every rock out of the tank that had it growing on it.

Maxthecat

i also have alot of gsp... i keep it under control by having it between a big hamerhead and my anemone, kills whatever grows past that

beertech

Surround the main colony with smaller tennis ball sized rocks, then as they get covered, take them out and sell them or trade them in to your favorite LFS for store credit.  Or give it all to me, I actually like GSP.  ;D

Wow.  I discarded a triangular piece during the week that was probably 8x4"...anyone wants to go on a list, PM me.  I grow sheets of the stuff.

cokelon

I'll take some free pieces too, I love GSP

let me know if you have more!!

thanks

Sharbuckle

definitely put me on the waiting list for free gsp

I would love to see a pict of your GSP Funk, must look pretty cool with it all over the glass.

As for getting rid of it you could try the diping it in boiling water

Aine

I'll be trying to get some out of the tank this week... I'll keep you posted...  :P
