lighting

I'm currently making a canopy for my planted 30g, I'm tired of the standard crappy store bought canopy, with T10 bulbs.I would like more than the low lvl plants. I was thinking about just using 3 of the CFL " Daylight"  bulbs mounted in a DIY wood canopy. Does anyone out there have any suggestions? Would that be enough lighting?

Do it right and do it once, go for t5's.
The lamps are cheaper and output more PAR.

Also remember that individual reflectors can output up to 300% more light into your tank.
