Is there a way to stop seeing messages to which I may have commented in once in the past?

Peter those are site global settings and would effect all postings and threads.  What I am asking for is this:
The ability to limit which threads trigger the "updated since last visit" flag.

Some months ago I posted into a thread, a thread which is now growing and being updated on a daily basis.  I have no desire to continue to be notified when that long thread is updated, as unread since my last visit...

I have become so annoyed by the continual updates, I resolved the problem by going into the thread and deleting my own posts...but that was done as a last resort, for one thread in particular.

Click on "Notify" while in the specific thread.  (If you're talking about the email notifications).

You can do it from where I said.  The first box of information has the global setting, but underneath that is all the threads that you are currently subscribed to.  This way you can get rid of the notifications without going into the specific thread - especially good when you want to unsubscribe from several at a time.

I am not subscribed to any threads at all, yet I still get a link to a thread I previously posted in, if I follow the "show new replies to your posts" link.
