Okay. That about sums up my situation. Just filled my new tank with a python, now the brass adaptor refuses to move from my faucet and has several layers of my naive epidermis woven into its threads...

I know this a real stupid question, but how do I get the adaptor off of there? The "instructions" inform me that it would damage the part if I used pliers (my first, once again, naive, impulse). Instead, it recommends using a quarter.

A fricking quarter.

Not knowing anything about plumbing, I fail to see how a quarter can remove a brass adaptor from a faucet and I'm getting some real strange looks from my wife...

Help. Please.

put a rag around the adaptor and then use the pliers!

I rap a rag around the pliers to get it off when I tighten it too much.

Heat may help..try running he hot water through it for a few moments, then twist.  If that doesn't work you may have to add more heat wth a torch.  It will come off

I highly recommend getting the "quick connect" adapter.

Makes it 10 times easier to get on the faucet, and the plastic threads won't get ripped to shreds every time you screw the brass adapter into them.

If you still haven't gotten it off just use the pliers directly on it and get it off even if you ruin then go to Canadian Tire or Home Depot and get a new one for $5.00.  Don't go to the Aquarium Stores and pay $15.00 for the same thing with the Python name on it.

That's what I use, the garden type hose quick connects and they work VERY well.

Update -- Ran hot water for a minute or two, wrapped a rag around it and gave a gentle twist of the pliers...All done...Now explaining the five bandaids on various locations of BOTH hands to people at work tomorrow is going to be fun...

I'll check out the quick disconnect for future adventures.

Thanks all.

quarter.
the reason they suggest using a quarter is because if you look/feel around the bottom of the adapter you will discover two slots that you can sit a quarter into and turn.
but personally I used the white nylon adapter. much easier to take off.
