I've been cycling a tank for about 2 months now. It's a 56 gallon with about 50-55lbs of Live rock.
The tank sat for about 2 months cycling. i recently had to empty the tank just move it. but in the process of emptying and refilling the sand bed got stirred and i think whatever organic matter in sand bed got stirred and caused a small ammonia spike to 0.5. My nitrite is ZERO (0), Nitrate Five (5), but my ammonia is at 0.5. Would a water changed be enough for me before i start adding my fish? i'm planning a FOWLR for this tank, with a lionfish. If my readings for ammonia stay at 0 after the water changed, am i ok? i figured the small ammonia spike was simply due to the sitriing of sand bed.

What do you guys think?

make sure the ammonia goes down to 0 and stays there before adding any fish or inverts IMO

i jsut did a 20% water change and ammonia has reduced to 0.25......if i do a 20% water change tomorrow, would that be ok?

Once the test reads 0 and holds for a few days, then its okay.

A WC will bring the ammonia down but let it stand and test it again the next day.Test it again every other day just to make sure that it stays down. You should be fine but there is no point in taking a chance with your Live stock.
