I was thinking of using a python type device to do water changes, however what about chlorine in the tap?  Is putting the de-chlorinator directly in to the aquarium and then filling from the tap adequate (safe and non stressing) for the fish?  If so, does the conditioner need to be diluted before it is added to the tank?

This what I do, to no apparent ill effect.  I usually just pour the dechlorinator infront of a powerhead or pump return.

I put the water treatment in the tank in the prescribed dosage (kind of) just before I add the water.  Too much of the chemical can't hurt the fish, so be sure you don't hold back on the dosage - that could be very dangerous.

Marx

I fill buckets a few days in advance for my water changes.. i did not by python for that reason.

I change the water in my discus tank with stored water - I don't use water treatment in that tank.

Yeah, and I use stored RO water for filling my reef auto-top off system, but for yer average aquarium with yer average fish, dechlorinator and tapwater from a python is just fine, IMHO.

Underwater

I use the python and dechlor right in the tank.  I turn off the filters while changing water though, to give the dechlorinator a chance to mix with the water so I don't end up sending chlorine into my filter, killing biobugs.

I just "dump and dump":

Dump the dechlor in, dump the water in. No probs at all.
