Hey guys
What bennifits have you seen in your experience from the 6 lined wrasse. I was told it was a sand sifter, but have not noticed it doing so?

6-line wrasse is a great addition to a tank where feeding is fast and furious.... it's an aggressive eater and will out-compete many other fish for food and in those cases it's just not an option.  Where this isn't an issue, then this little fish is a champ.  It's a pest-eater for the reef, consuming all sorts of nasties, hunting them down every waking minute of the day.

The 6-line, like most wrasse, will bury itself in the sand at night to sleep often expelling a slimy cocoon that it sleeps in, which btw will keep it safe from predators with a nasty taste, and protect it from things like ICK...

I would never personally thought of one as a sand-sifter.... but I can see how it would turn over parts of the sand-bed...

A much better choice, IMO, would be some of the gobies or jaw fish.  Alternately, there are many inverts that do this exceptionally well (I use some kind of snail, not sure the kind) that lives under the sand 99% of the time... now that's sand-sifting!

In a mature sand-bed, of a good size say 4sqr feet or more, a sand-sifting starfish is a very interesting choice as well.

Was looking up info on morrish idols and found this link on 6-line wrasse experiences...

not apprpriate for a 10gal IMO, a sand star or few nassarius snail would do the job.

Had my 6 line two years now.
Sure it's quick at feeding time, but never been
a problem with tank mates.
I've a juvinile coris wrasse, just changing colors
thats a backhoe! Can flip over fair sized
corals. And goes underground at night, cool to see.
But the 6 line, never seen it even close to "sand sifting"
Maybe you've been misinformed?

I love my 6 line. I've had him for 4 yrs and have added multiple fish and he has never been aggresive with tank mates... only with me. If i put my finger near him he does a staredown and jolts foward like he going to attack, lol. I still get a kick out of his eyes. He doesn't knock anything in my tank over and doesn't sand shift.
Great addition IMO lots of personality
