Debating which of these two filters will be best for me. I am partial to Eheim, they have been good to me all these years:)

Post any comments, pros, cons, experience, etc!

Thanks everyone  8)

I too had this same debate, I went with the Eheim 2078 for a few reasons:

1 - stream function work very well, my fish love it!
2 - you can connect the 2078 to your computer (I'm still trying to figure this out mind you and it's expensive)
3 - uses far less power and is super quiet

I've gone the FX5 route.

In fact I've got 4 running and another 1 getting ready to go to work.
I like the large amount of space available for media,
and also the ease of cleaning.
I also really like the fact that you can pump water out of the tank(purge)
using the filter.
Drawback is the corrugated tubing but if one wanted they could easily
change this up to smooth.

I've also had one that turned out to be a dud and had no problems whatsoever
getting it replaced.
Hope that's of some help?

The benefit of the corrugated tubing is that you can bend it very tightly, without it kinking like smooth tubing does.

Yes but crud tends to build up in the corrugations and when you turn it back on a bunch of it gets blown into the tank. So its really a trade off, personally I'd rather go with less bendable smooth tubing.

Back to the OP I would opt for the FX5 for its pure GPH rating, even at the usual 600 GPH rate its still way higher then most other fiilters. Honestly if your interested in a large canister filter and is a Eheim for the reliability, hit up a Eheim 2062 (or 2262) can't remember which. Or look up 2060, the 2062 has a higher GPH if I remember correctly but I could be wrong.

We went with the Eheim in the subject line:) It has been amazing so far, albeit a few set backs with the software for the computer, but that should be fixed up this week (hopefully!) It is bringing out my inner geekisms, and I am DYING to see what I can really do with this filter with the computer tweeking :D
I love the stream function, and so do the fish. It's so much fun watching their natural 'silly' behaviors when the stream gets stronger :P

Thanks everyone!
