I really like your photography, but it loads so slowly, that I sometimes avoid reading your news post if I am in a hurry (or at work).

Could you divide your treads into text and photos? Two treads might be:

News: Weekend Special, Jan 11-14
&
Photos: Weekend Special Jan 11-14.

People who are in a hurry, or comfortable with just the names will read the first and the 'Photos' tread would be both the text and the photos – like it is currently.
