I always had great service and food at Vittoria Tratoria in the byward market.  Great (est) wine card around too IMO.

as for type Im not sure.  Neither of us are big sushi fans but other then that we are pretty open.  As for price range, less then $50 or $60 a plate is fine.  We arent big drinkers so the food can be more epensive.

The restaurant at the  Brookstreet Hotel in Kanata really wowwed me.

Then again what do I know, I'd just as well order a pizza.  8)

with a birthday!!! Have you thought of ethnic
restaurants like Thai,Chinese.....Mexican
one of my favourites Chinese restaurants is JADE LAND on Somerset.
very nice environment and price is excellent and quality A+.......why do you have to spend
a fortune on a nice dinner.?
when it comes to giving that special one a birthday dinner ,what count most
is the time you spent trying to make her happy not to mention quality time together.

We've been to Milestones at the Pinecrest Mall a few times. No disappointments yet. Reasonable price and the name of the restaurant certainly fits. I think there's one downtown too.

Louisiannies in Stittsville.

Seems as if you're coming in from a day on the farm, through the kitchen, and then, .....

Intimate and yet, you feel you're at home.

I like Joy on Somerset St. W, just east of Bank http://www.restaurantjoy.com/
I've had some birthdays there, and it's pretty yummy.

I've never been disappointed with the food at Imperial, but it may be a bit more causal than what you're looking for http://the-imperial.com/ The food is amazing though.

Have a great dinner!

For a very special occasion, and if you have access to a car, I'd suggest you let yourself be tempted to come all the way into Québec to l'Orée du boishttp://www.oreeduboisrestaurant.com/en in Chelsea. It's authentic French cuisine, but not pretentious or stuffy. They also smoke their own fish and it's to die for. The prices are also quite reasonable for the high quality you get.
