The Cichlid Empire is built on intelligence, adaptability and a surprising degree of parental care for their young.

Male Burundi Frontosa can hit 6" in the first year as you will start to see the hump developing. Females will be 3 1/2 to 4" normally. But food, temperature and stress levels will determine actual growth rate.

Frontosa especially Burndi do not do as well with Malawi's most Maalwi's nip the Frontosa fins so they don't get the spectacular trailers. Also Malawi's are very busy and stress frontosa out.

With only 2 frontosa in your tank you are looking for trouble. One will most likely eventually end up dead. They do best in groups of at least 1M and 3F. Sometime you can get away with a single fish.

In a Malawi tank a single Mpimbwe might be ok in some tanks. They are a little more aggressive a feeder and get more tame and a puppy dog like personality. They will also eat out of your hand. The down side is Gibberosa do not get the huge hump that Burundi types are known for.

I second everything Bruce said. He is actually the reason I kept  being in this hobby after many failures at the beginning.
