He's nuts about aquariums, and currently is obsessed with saltwater.  Talks about it all the time.  My wife & I, after hearing something he said, thought that it would be great if we could find another kid who is 5 to 7 years old, also interested in aquariums, to arrange a play date with.

Do you have a 5-7 year old boy or girl (he plays well with both genders) who loves fish too?  Doesn't really matter if your kid is into fresh or salt water stuff, I'm sure that they could still talk.

Thought of various options on how to do this.

1) We could meet for lunch or something at a McDonalds to introduce and then take them to an LFS and allot them a budget of a few bucks for something of their choice (within reason of course).  Encourage them to explore together.

2) We could meet up at one of our homes to do a fishtank show & tell... then allow them to degrade into random play while we parents (grandparents/whatever) enjoy coffee/tea/whatever.

3) Open to other ideas if you have any.

You know how kids are, so who knows how well it will actually work out... but it could be something fun for the kids to try.

Anyone suitable up to the experience?

Love it!! :)
Did you find anyone to meet up? My little guy is only 2 1/2, he can talk fish, but not as well yet as someone who's older haha :)

Have fun!

Yes, someone who has two kids the same ages & genders as mine are.  They also have both SW & FW tanks.  We haven't set a date yet, but it is looking very promising.  I showed my kids the picture he sent of his son standing in front of their SW tank, and they're excited.  So far I am glad I posted that "LF".  Crossing fingers that the meetup will be a good time for everyone.

Maybe when your son's a bit older you can do the same idea... or why not see if you can find someone around 3.  Just a thought... even inviting a friend over (surely you network with other moms) to have a play date, and a feature, though not entire thing, might be to show off the tank "show & tell" style.  Push a guppy onto the kid, and who knows if the fish isn't a trojan fish to introducing the hobby to the parents ;)   (be sure to also give elodea/hornwort/watersprite along with the guppy, and maybe a nearly empty bottle of conditioner)  Again, just a thought.

ohhh we've been working on it ;) haha his little friend LOVES fish and I take the two regularly to Big Al's and Petsmart and the funny thing is, Fish Tail stuck in their mind!! He has two little chairs, and they call his store "The little store" LOL Virgil STILL talks about it even though he was only there once!! we'll have to browse more often I guess! ;D But his little friend and him adore watching the fish in the stores!

I'm glad you found someone for your son to chat and play with!! should be lots of fun!! Maybe OVAS can get it's Jr club up and running again ???

I'm going to throw this in here first before I put it in the free ads.   I have, for free to a kid who would like their own tank.

12 gallon tank, (10 gal footprint, just taller)
top with flourescent lighting
AC filter,
natural gravel
probably more stuff, likely a heater - I haven't brought it out of the corner in the basement where this is.

I am in a "declutter and get it out of the house" mood, and while I wouldn't mind selling this, it would make me very happy if it went to a kid or if someone knows a good cause.

My son loves fish too, but again he's way too young for a play date...not quite 2.  He likes to go around the house in the morning to help me feed the fish and he parrots back most fish names successfully...although a "Platty" sounds more like "Potty"  ;D
