Hi everyone, fairly new to this hobby and i'm just in the process of setting up my first sw tank.

I've included a few pics, would love to hear peoples opinions and any pointers that would help out along the way.

The Setup:

120G tank (48x24x24)
36G sump (36x12x18)
Magdrive 1800 return pump
2 drains flow down into one and water is returned in the 2 - 1/2" returns

So far i've added 55lbs of eco rock and 10lbs of fiji dry rock and will be adding another 15-25lbs fiji rock and 20-30lbs of live rock.

The plan for the near future is to add a reef octopus skimmer (torn between 2 right now) also a reactor and bio-pellets.

I'll be starting to cycle the tank either tonight or tomorrow as the salinity is currently at 1.020 and in the picture of the sump there is more water now as i've added the rock since the time the picture was taken.

I've probably forgot to add a few things but ask away and if theres any advice out there i'd love to hear it.

Thanks

Awesome start!  Sorry to burst your bubble though, but its a 120g tank and not a 125g :)  48x24x24 is 120g.  I have one as well.  Awesome tank size to work with! :D

Tagging along to see what the creative juices do!

Edited :)  Thanks for pointing that out!!  Unfortunatly when I got the tank I was told it was a 125g and a Miracles tank but neither of those turned out to be true :(

Nice build , Are you going to put some sand it or leave it bare bottom ?? Most ppl that do include a deep sand bed in the refugium part of the sump :) Will you be leaving the back glass intact or adding a background or paint ?

Great start keep it up !

Thanks for all the great comments guys!! I'm super excited about this project/hobby.

I'm going to pick up some more dry rock tomorrow as I want to put a couple smaller peices in the bottom just to make sure everything will be nice and secure before I put the sand in.  I'm going with CaribSea Aragonite Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand and will be adding it in the next day or two.

Also I have been debating what to do with the back of the tank but where I have it situated you get a nice reflection off the mirror into the back of the tank but overtime it will be covered with coraline anyways so i'll probably just keep it as is.

Nice looking setup you have.Good job so far.

Some companies call them a 125 short but works out to 120 gal.Just like some people call the 6' version a 125 but they work out to a 135.

Miracles usually put a sticker on their tanks but I have heard that not all the time.I know that they are not doing the braces anymore.

Just save yourself some headaches and take your time.
